Seattle U. Rain Garden

A rain garden is intended to collect rainwater that is unable to be absorbed by surfaces like concrete to prevent flooding and damage. Planning for this project involved surveying campus to find highly impacted areas, designing a drain to feed into the garden, writing a grant, and working with Seattle U Grounds to determine the logistics of this project. ESW broke ground in October 2022 after a year of research and planning. The garden is in the Bellarmine Flagpole Lawn and contains native plants with a high tolerance for water.

This project is still progressing, and a goal for 2023-2024 is to plan an expansion of the garden to improve its efficiency of collecting and filtering rainwater.

ESW team hard at work!
